Philippa Day works from her studio in the heart of England, creating unique collections of bags, purses and other textile and leather goods. She has built an excellent reputation for her high-quality level of design, detailing and finishing, as well as a real eye for combining colour and texture to produce deliciously elegant work. Philippa has a deep love of sumptuous textiles and gets terribly over-excited by the silks, fine leather, vintage buttons, fancy ribbons and yummiest of rich velvets and brocades used in her work.

A textural, colour-rich palette, combined with the delight of observing space and nature inspire Philippa to create textiles treats for the eye and soul!

Inspiration!

Philippa's main inspiration for her work is from her previous career in the Space Industry (yes, you read that right). She spent several years in Germany working on space projects as a document engineer and archivist, including XMM Newton (The European Space Agency's (ESA) X-ray Multi-Mirror Mission) and the VLT (Very Large Telescope), the largest ground-based optical telescope in the world.

"I use the 'Space' idea by adding little silk dupion planets to all my work. You'll find them with binary (twin) stars on my leather satchel bags, and sometimes I make whole galaxies! (Have a look at her textile goodies.)

I love the idea of my customers not only owning a very special and yummy piece of work, but also they get their own universe!"

And in the moments when she finds the time, she plays silver flute and Irish whistle with a local band, and is very excited to have just purchased her first (left-handed) guitar!
